A: And again everybody good evening and welcome to “Mysteries of the Mind” at about seven minutes after the hour — well coming up on it, anyway. And I am that shy and demure guy, Alex Merklinger. And I do want to again welcome our guest tonight, Mark Russell Bell. Fascinating, fascinating young man. What an incredible life experience, Mark, you’ve had already in, actually, you know, not many years, huh? I mean you . . .
Q: Well I’m forty-five years old.
A: . . . have written. You have two books. I don’t know why you give them away for nothing but I think that’s very commendable on your part. Maybe you should get an agent or something but I think what you’re doing is truly remarkable because of the research that you are into. Some of these stories are absolutely fascinating.
Q: Well I’ll address that a little bit later but, first, I think it might be a good idea just to play a very brief snippet of my interview in Oklahoma.
A: Yes.
Q: In this very haunted house. I hope you can hear it. Let me know if you have any problems. Now the EVP is some — very prominent in this excerpt. There’s one voice saying “SOUNDS GOOD,” which is definitely not anyone in the room at the time. There’s a “YOU KNOW” which is a little bit harder to hear. Apparently — the family would call — nickname the Entity Michael. And “YOU KNOW” — there are a lot of “YOU KNOW”s on my tapes. And then later there’s just one word: “NICE.” And there’s also some moaning. And when I was doing the interview, it was the weekend of a funeral. I — it just worked out that way where her first husband Mr. Bell’s funeral was the same weekend so people were dropping things by. But at this time I don’t believe there were any visitors there but you can hear it for yourself. So this is just about ninety seconds.
M: (TAPED INTERVIEW) Oh did you tell him about letting (“YEAH”) the air out of Frieda’s tire out here?
T: (TAPED INTERVIEW) Mama, I’ve had so much.
M: (TAPED INTERVIEW) I know it. There’s so (“YEAH”) much. (“SOUNDS GOOD”)
Q: Well no, it’s fine because, you know, once we do — once we (“NO”), you know, once I know what’s going on I can sort of zero in — try to figure out what is the main area, if anyone can. I was just telling her some of the other cases —I was telling a few of the (“YOU KNOW”) — the anecdotes from some of the other cases throughout history. There are lots of interesting parallels. Especially like with people like her were once accused of being witches because of this. (“NO”)
M: (TAPED INTERVIEW) Did you tell him about the organ that time in there in my room? (“IN BILL’S ROOM”) I was out there pulling weeds out of my flower bed outside of Bill’s window one day and she hollered at me to come in. And my organ was sitting in there (“NICE”) and he had it turned on where the — the loud or the deep part of the organ is. He had a pot of flowers sitting on there. That organ was just going BLUUUOOONNNAAA. I bet he had a bunch of Teddy Bears laying on the bed. (MOAN) Like it — it scared me to death. I said, “Oh my gosh. That’s just like a funeral.”
Y: (TAPED INTERVIEW) Bye-bye.
Q: So did you have any trouble hearing that?
A: Well it was a little — yes, it was a little hard but I could hear the groaning. Trying (to) think what el(se) —
Q: What —
A: I heard other things that didn’t seem to come from anybody in that room and I can — that’s exactly what you’re talking about.
Q: Right. What I do in listening to EVP is I, like, will rep(eat) — I use a transcribing machine and that seems to work better. Different recorders have different results. And I rewind it and listen to it over and over again. And sometimes it harder to make out and other times — than other times. And, as I’ve done this work, my perceptions (“OF”) just what EVP is have (“HAVE”) evolved. Often, they’ll be just pieces of words and sentences. For example, I was reading James Van Praagh’s book Talking To Heaven and, of course, he’s a ‘mental’ spirit medium—who also once worked at Paramount, I might add, in the contracts department—and he said — on page 35 of his book he said: “Usually I don’t hear in complete sentences as I can in normal conversation with human beings. When a spirit says, ‘Hello, how are you today,’ I may hear ‘lo, are yo day.'” And that’s exactly what’s going on with a lot of the EVP. In other cases of EVP, you can hear full sentences and, again, I had the same exact experience as in the original Bell Witch case and as this family in Oklahoma did but it was limited to listening to tapes on my tape recorder.
A: Now, Mark, in your tapes that you have, have you ever noticed — because I’ve heard this before — have you ever noticed that when you initially play them you have certain sounds and then you can actually come back to those tapes later on and the sounds will either be more complete or clearer or in some cases even new information?
Q: Well I had mentioned the work of John C. Lilly before. And in his (“UM”) experiences, he basically said, “If one listens to a tape loop of a repeated word for fifteen minutes, one may hear as many as thirty different words other than the one which is on the tape loop.” I’ve had many different experiences listening to EVP. For example, at one time I was listening to the word “yes” and I played it at slow speed and it actually sounded like “no” when it was on a different speed. And I basically think that the phenomena is really unlimited and it’s really up to each (“PER”) particular person. I mean it’s also on broad(casts) — I hear it on broadcasts. Radio show broadcasts. Just anything recorded or transmitted you do hear it (“ON AN UP”) and I’ll have to play some more examples later if we have the chance because I have some very clear examples. What happened is, after hearing all this EVP — and, of course, I didn’t even know what EVP meant at the time. I just thought that they were spirit messages. And I thought there’s really no way of telling people about what happened to me other than just transcribing the tapes and let them then — letting people read them themselves. I’m certainly not going to tell them what it means because I really don’t know myself. In fact, my feelings and impressions have evolved every step of the way. So — but to get back to what I was talking about earlier in the Bell Witch case and those two sermons, one of the stories that I heard when I was interviewing the family was concerning a flat tire. And Twyla basically — her sister was waiting for a friend to pick her up and she overheard from her room her friend Sue apologizing that she was late. And so then when she went out like a half hour later she was surprised to see that her sister was still there and she said, ‘I thought Sue had picked you up.’ And then what happened is Sue eventually arrived and the exact same thing that she’d heard earlier replayed so it was as if (“LIKE”) the house had recorded the conversation before it happened and played it back.
A: Oh gee, that is wild. Now do you think this happens all the time, Mark? I mean because why is it — may(be) — well probably because you are so much into it and as an investigator you are more aware of it but do you think this is going on around us all the time (for) let’s say the average person?
Q: Well in my own experiences — because we only have our own experiences to work with — I know in terms of having done so much research I certainly was prepared to understand some of these things and not to be frightened. Of course, what happened I — when I came back to Los Angeles after the interviews, the phenomena was escalating. So that was something that I totally had not expected. What actually had happened to me I think (“NO”) there in Oklahoma was sort of — it was sort of Spirit communicating to me in sort of a ritualized way using pop culture and the supernatural to tell me wider truths. (“B” “AN”) So (it) was sort of like a formal introduction because basically i(t) — (“THE E[V]”) the event itself enabled me to sort of make a leap in consciousness. It’s sort of like the Superconscious Mind manifesting in a way that I was able to understand. For example, I was hearing stories about, for example, there was this — one of them was called Leader. And I heard a story about (“AA”) Leader and at one point they said (“TH — TH”) the spirits (I meant aliens) were from Saturn — and so the aliens were from Saturn. So when I — after coming home — I was still experiencing strange events. For example, when I was there in Oklahoma (“WE”) I saw pennies materialize. They were always talking about how the Entity would take money from them and they were always worried that he would get their purse. I mean it was crazy. Then when I came home I called up my friend Marie and just what had happened is her bank account had been cleared out. An(d) — hmm?
A: Oh my God.
Q: Exactly. So — and then I called up — I have a friend who just-so-happened was a Tarot card reader. So I called up Fiona and as I (was) speaking to her, she said a magnet flew off of her refrigerator. So then I (“SU”) — so I called my mom and I said, well, ‘Michael, give me a sign.’ And she said, ‘Well there’s nothing” — well my mom is a very skeptical person. And she said, ‘Well there’s no sign. But, just a moment, there are some wasps acting strangely.’
A: (laughs) (“A[ND]”)
Q: And so, of course, when I was in Oklahoma there were a lot of wasps in the house. But then I went to a party — (“AT”) my brother and his friend’s house. And they had a slide show and my friend Charlotte said, ‘The man in the Hawaiian shirt was our tour leader.’ And then my other friend Patty mentioned her car was a Saturn. And I — I realized that the Entity was communicating with me through the subconscious minds of other people. And (“N”) plus the (“TH TH”) bulb of the slide show (projector) burned out unexpectedly. I think that’s the last slide show I’ve been invited to.
A: (laughs)
Q: But (“I” “SOIWAS”) I was dealing with the spirit messages and EVP on tape. Plus there had been strange happenings when — at Paramount before I had left on — for the interviews. For example, (“THE”) the most significant case was I had finished — because I was freelance at the time — (“I”) was on staff for three or four years and then I was freelancing for about as many. And one of my projects was the movie “Clueless” — to do the press kit for the movie “Clueless.” And when I went to turn in the press kit, which is basically taking a disk and putting it into their computer, it wouldn’t allow the file to go into the computer. It said ‘disk corrupted.’ So it wasn’t a big deal. I thought, “Well I’ll just redo it.” Well nothing worked. I even went to Kinko’s and I retyped it. It di(dn’t) — it still said corrupted and I thought, “Well that’s strange. How could the virus go from — (“YOU KNOW”) how? This was really bizarre. So then I went and I retyped it at the computer inside the department at Paramount. And it still — when I went to take it from one computer to the other computer it wouldn’t go. It wouldn’t move. And this was before they really — it isn’t like now where (“THERE IS”) — not everything is on one system. So —
A: That is bizarre.
Q: Yeah, it was. (“SO I”) So I was the ‘clueless’ one at the time because I didn’t know what was going on.
A: Now did the spirits ever let you know what they did that?
Q: Well, what happened is after I came back, (“YOU KNOW”) having been a publicist I’d interviewed (“LIKE”) producers and directors and actors while I was there. And I had a lot of these tapes left. So I went to some of these tapes and I listened to them and, sure enough, I could EVP and spirit messages even on these interviews that were taped years (“YOU KNOW”) before I had gone to Oklahoma. In fact, and then I was looking at some of the movies I had word on and (“SURE”) sure, I had worked on a lot of very well-known prominent films such as “Fatal Attraction,” “Forrest Gump”; but also a lot of films dealing with the paranormal. For example, just to give you a few of the titles: “Ghost,” “The Butcher’s Wife,” “Dead Again,” (“U”) “We’re No Angels” was another one. I mean a lo(t) — “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” “The Indian In The Cupboard.” “Friday the 13th” films. “Star Trek” (movies). (“SO” “YOU KNOW”) It was — I was definitely prepared for anything after working on some of those films. So — anyway, so — and, plus, I was getting instructions from the EVP/spirit messages. And there was one part in the book — so what I have in (“IN”) — in the book is just the transcripts of my interviews with the EVP in parentheses. And at one point we were going over the names of the family and I had a message saying “AND THAT’S ALL.” And I knew (“THAT”) that meant that, basically, (“THO”) those were the only ones to share in the profits from the book and I was not really allowed to make a profit off the book myself other than just having my expenses reimbursed. (“SO” “B N”) Plus, I didn’t want people to think I was doing this for money. I didn’t want it to be spirituality for sale so that was fine with me. And (“AND THAT””I”) so that’s why I — I think it is important (“TO”) to share the experience on the Internet because I found this to be a very Loving Entity. When I first came back, I didn’t know what (“CHILI”) — what was going on. I really thought that maybe this was a bizarre family curse of some kind. And that maybe I had Bell ancestry. So I started doing research. (“AND”) I had strange events — I still had strange events. For example, my television would go on and off. I could not watch TV. Every time I would turn of the television, it would go off. But then sometimes it would come on and give me a little message. For example, I remember a commercial. It would flip on — (“N”) I heard, “Love is the only religion.” Some trite commercial. And then the TV went off. Another time, Colin Powell was on. And then the TV went off. I thought, “Well that’s strange. (“WHY”) What’s Colin Powell doing there? Is he going to be President?” I mean I really didn’t know what (“WHAT”) that — what it meant.
A: This just came on when you were there and/or —
Q: When I was in my living room.
A: . . . watching?
Q: Whenever I tried to watch TV, it would go off. The Entity did not want me to watch television. And now, of course, it’s easy for me now in my more spiritually aware state to realize that well, of course, television is the ultimate mind control. (“ANNIE” or “ANY”) I mean who needs it? Trash your television. (“BUT”) Then, I didn’t know what was going on. I remember I was transcribing one night. And I thought, “Well I’ll take a break.” And something happened that was a parallel toward the Bell Witch case of the sermons and then what happened there with the flat tire. (“BASICALLY”) I turned on. It was MTV “The Real World.” And just as I turned on the television — (“D”) it was set in London and their telephone (“HAD”) was not working. And, anyway, I — and then it went off. The TV went off. And so I — of course, Mighael, which is my name for the Entity as well as the family’s in Oklahoma —
A: Is it the same Entity?
Q: Oh yeah. In all the cases I think it’s the same because that’s one of the things (“THAT”) when you really read (“ALO[T]”) about a lot of these cases you see so many striking parallels. For example, in the Nostradamus — even in Nostradamus back in the 16th Century he wrote: “The prophets, by means only of the immortal God and good angels, have received the spirit of vaticination, by which they foresee things and foretell future events.” Because most people don’t think of Nostradamus as being an Angelic channel but in fact he was. And, of course, the other most famous case, Edgar Cayce — he always concluded his sessions (“WITH”) “WE ARE THROUGH.” And, occasionally, he — it is known that he communicated in foreign languages. (“SO”) Basically, (“HE”) this was an amassing of spirits, again, coming through. So what I was witnessing in Oklahoma was — was a disembodied version (“OF”) what happened with Edgar Cayce. And, of course, Madame Blavatsky always talked about that mysterious group she referred to as ‘the Mahatmas.’ Another group — grouping of people. But I think the other case that really crystalizes this is Messages From Michael where the amassing of spirits began communicating via Ouija Board. Are you familiar with that case?
A: I sure am.
Q: And so — and I think another one of the famous cases that I like to equate is presented in Life After Life by Dr. Raymond A. Moody. That anecdote about Dr. George Ritchie when he encountered a being (“WHO”) was the Son of God. So — and also (“I”) I should mention too that I did have burning bushes in my back — in the back of my condo.
A: . . . Read that. I was going to ask you about that. Now you’re not smoking any of that funny stuff they have there, are you?
Q: No, I have a photo of the bushes in the book, in fact, (“CAN I”) at the website. This happened like a year before I went to Oklahoma. And the first time it happened — well it was right outside my window and it was at dusk. And I was hysterical. I mean I called the fire department. I called up (“MY”) my mom and my brother as I was watching this huge bush go up in flames, worrying that, of course, the building might catch on fire. So I was worried that — it was right before the Fourth of July so I thought there might be a pyromaniac loose or something. So I began really watching the hillside because there were a lot of shrubbery on the hillside. And a couple days later I was at my computer looking out the window and I (“SAW THE”) — I saw the telltale smoke starting. So I immediately (“WHAT” “YOU KNOW”) called up the fire department and ran downstairs. There was nobody there. I mean (“N”) because you can see a wide-angle view of the hillside. (“AND” “BB”) What do you do? I mean it had to — ‘he had to have gotten away.’ These are the types of experiences I was having and I was just discounting them. I actually had two raptures. I had read about raptures and then I had experienced them myself. And I had at least one nightmare aboard a UFO. But I had one other experience too where I heard a voice and that’s where I was in bed one night and I heard this “FATHER I HAVE WAITED SO LONG.” And that really freaked me out because I just didn’t know what on Earth — where that came from.
A: Yeah.
Q: So — and I had — (“IGNORE”)
A: A voice said “FATHER I HAVE WAITED SO LONG”?
Q: Right. I mean unforgettable because — (“WH WH” “NO” “WHAT I[S]”) what on Earth? (“SO”) So I was having all the — and, plus, working at Paramount, back then I didn’t think anything much about the mountain logo but I sure do now. (“I HAVE”) So I have — (“THIS”) I have all this religious symbolism in my life. (“SO”) There was one day when I — after I’d come back to L.A. where I head the idea (“OF” “AA”) — I had the idea of researching my ancestry. First of all, I wanted to see if I had any Bell ancestry. But then (“I”) — so I was going — (“I WAS THINKING”) I had this thought and then I went home. Well my key would not fit into the lock. (“NO” “S[O]”) Anyway, I ended up going to the downtown public library and I found this book. It was Historical Memoirs of the First Race of Ancestry, Whence the House of Russell Had Its Origin. It was (“UN” “UM”) a book written by J. H. Wiffen is 1833, a very rare book that they happened to have in the archives (“OF THE”) — the library downtown. It’s a very good library for (“FOR”) this kind of research. But, basically — (“IT”) basically said I was — the whole Russell lineage could be traced back to somebody known as Olaf the Sharp-eyed, King of Rerik.

What actually had happened to me I think (“NO”) there in Oklahoma was sort of — it was sort of Spirit communicating to me in sort of a ritualized way using pop culture and the supernatural to tell me wider truths. (“B” “AN”) So (it) was sort of like a formal introduction because basically i(t) — (“THE E[V]”) the event itself enabled me to sort of make a leap in consciousness. It’s sort of like the Superconscious Mind manifesting in a way that I was able to understand. For example, I was hearing stories about, for example, there was this — one of them was called Leader. And I heard a story about (“AA”) Leader and at one point they said (“TH — TH”) the spirits (I meant aliens) were from Saturn — and so the aliens were from Saturn. So when I — after coming home — I was still experiencing strange events. For example, when I was there in Oklahoma (“WE”) I saw pennies materialize. They were always talking about how the Entity would take money from them and they were always worried that he would get their purse. I mean it was crazy. Then when I came home I called up my friend Marie and just what had happened is her bank account had been cleared out. An(d) — hmm?
A: Oh my God.
Q: Exactly. So — and then I called up — I have a friend who just-so-happened was a Tarot card reader. So I called up Fiona and as I (was) speaking to her, she said a magnet flew off of her refrigerator. So then I (“SU”) — so I called my mom and I said, well, ‘Michael, give me a sign.’ And she said, ‘Well there’s nothing” — well my mom is a very skeptical person. And she said, ‘Well there’s no sign. But, just a moment, there are some wasps acting strangely.’
A: (laughs) (“A[ND]”)
Q: And so, of course, when I was in Oklahoma there were a lot of wasps in the house. But then I went to a party — (“AT”) my brother and his friend’s house. And they had a slide show and my friend Charlotte said, ‘The man in the Hawaiian shirt was our tour leader.’ And then my other friend Patty mentioned her car was a Saturn. And I — I realized that the Entity was communicating with me through the subconscious minds of other people. And (“N”) plus the (“TH TH”) bulb of the slide show (projector) burned out unexpectedly. I think that’s the last slide show I’ve been invited to.
A: (laughs)
Q: But (“I” “SOIWAS”) I was dealing with the spirit messages and EVP on tape. Plus there had been strange happenings when — at Paramount before I had left on — for the interviews. For example, (“THE”) the most significant case was I had finished — because I was freelance at the time — (“I”) was on staff for three or four years and then I was freelancing for about as many. And one of my projects was the movie “Clueless” — to do the press kit for the movie “Clueless.” And when I went to turn in the press kit, which is basically taking a disk and putting it into their computer, it wouldn’t allow the file to go into the computer. It said ‘disk corrupted.’ So it wasn’t a big deal. I thought, “Well I’ll just redo it.” Well nothing worked. I even went to Kinko’s and I retyped it. It di(dn’t) — it still said corrupted and I thought, “Well that’s strange. How could the virus go from — (“YOU KNOW”) how? This was really bizarre. So then I went and I retyped it at the computer inside the department at Paramount. And it still — when I went to take it from one computer to the other computer it wouldn’t go. It wouldn’t move. And this was before they really — it isn’t like now where (“THERE IS”) — not everything is on one system. So —
A: That is bizarre.
Q: Yeah, it was. (“SO I”) So I was the ‘clueless’ one at the time because I didn’t know what was going on.
A: Now did the spirits ever let you know what they did that?
Q: Well, what happened is after I came back, (“YOU KNOW”) having been a publicist I’d interviewed (“LIKE”) producers and directors and actors while I was there. And I had a lot of these tapes left. So I went to some of these tapes and I listened to them and, sure enough, I could EVP and spirit messages even on these interviews that were taped years (“YOU KNOW”) before I had gone to Oklahoma. In fact, and then I was looking at some of the movies I had word on and (“SURE”) sure, I had worked on a lot of very well-known prominent films such as “Fatal Attraction,” “Forrest Gump”; but also a lot of films dealing with the paranormal. For example, just to give you a few of the titles: “Ghost,” “The Butcher’s Wife,” “Dead Again,” (“U”) “We’re No Angels” was another one. I mean a lo(t) — “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” “The Indian In The Cupboard.” “Friday the 13th” films. “Star Trek” (movies). (“SO” “YOU KNOW”) It was — I was definitely prepared for anything after working on some of those films. So — anyway, so — and, plus, I was getting instructions from the EVP/spirit messages. And there was one part in the book — so what I have in (“IN”) — in the book is just the transcripts of my interviews with the EVP in parentheses. And at one point we were going over the names of the family and I had a message saying “AND THAT’S ALL.” And I knew (“THAT”) that meant that, basically, (“THO”) those were the only ones to share in the profits from the book and I was not really allowed to make a profit off the book myself other than just having my expenses reimbursed. (“SO” “B N”) Plus, I didn’t want people to think I was doing this for money. I didn’t want it to be spirituality for sale so that was fine with me. And (“AND THAT””I”) so that’s why I — I think it is important (“TO”) to share the experience on the Internet because I found this to be a very Loving Entity. When I first came back, I didn’t know what (“CHILI”) — what was going on. I really thought that maybe this was a bizarre family curse of some kind. And that maybe I had Bell ancestry. So I started doing research. (“AND”) I had strange events — I still had strange events. For example, my television would go on and off. I could not watch TV. Every time I would turn of the television, it would go off. But then sometimes it would come on and give me a little message. For example, I remember a commercial. It would flip on — (“N”) I heard, “Love is the only religion.” Some trite commercial. And then the TV went off. Another time, Colin Powell was on. And then the TV went off. I thought, “Well that’s strange. (“WHY”) What’s Colin Powell doing there? Is he going to be President?” I mean I really didn’t know what (“WHAT”) that — what it meant.
A: This just came on when you were there and/or —
Q: When I was in my living room.
A: . . . watching?
Q: Whenever I tried to watch TV, it would go off. The Entity did not want me to watch television. And now, of course, it’s easy for me now in my more spiritually aware state to realize that well, of course, television is the ultimate mind control. (“ANNIE” or “ANY”) I mean who needs it? Trash your television. (“BUT”) Then, I didn’t know what was going on. I remember I was transcribing one night. And I thought, “Well I’ll take a break.” And something happened that was a parallel toward the Bell Witch case of the sermons and then what happened there with the flat tire. (“BASICALLY”) I turned on. It was MTV “The Real World.” And just as I turned on the television — (“D”) it was set in London and their telephone (“HAD”) was not working. And, anyway, I — and then it went off. The TV went off. And so I — of course, Mighael, which is my name for the Entity as well as the family’s in Oklahoma —
A: Is it the same Entity?
Q: Oh yeah. In all the cases I think it’s the same because that’s one of the things (“THAT”) when you really read (“ALO[T]”) about a lot of these cases you see so many striking parallels. For example, in the Nostradamus — even in Nostradamus back in the 16th Century he wrote: “The prophets, by means only of the immortal God and good angels, have received the spirit of vaticination, by which they foresee things and foretell future events.” Because most people don’t think of Nostradamus as being an Angelic channel but in fact he was. And, of course, the other most famous case, Edgar Cayce — he always concluded his sessions (“WITH”) “WE ARE THROUGH.” And, occasionally, he — it is known that he communicated in foreign languages. (“SO”) Basically, (“HE”) this was an amassing of spirits, again, coming through. So what I was witnessing in Oklahoma was — was a disembodied version (“OF”) what happened with Edgar Cayce. And, of course, Madame Blavatsky always talked about that mysterious group she referred to as ‘the Mahatmas.’ Another group — grouping of people. But I think the other case that really crystalizes this is Messages From Michael where the amassing of spirits began communicating via Ouija Board. Are you familiar with that case?
A: I sure am.
Q: And so — and I think another one of the famous cases that I like to equate is presented in Life After Life by Dr. Raymond A. Moody. That anecdote about Dr. George Ritchie when he encountered a being (“WHO”) was the Son of God. So — and also (“I”) I should mention too that I did have burning bushes in my back — in the back of my condo.
A: . . . Read that. I was going to ask you about that. Now you’re not smoking any of that funny stuff they have there, are you?
Q: No, I have a photo of the bushes in the book, in fact, (“CAN I”) at the website. This happened like a year before I went to Oklahoma. And the first time it happened — well it was right outside my window and it was at dusk. And I was hysterical. I mean I called the fire department. I called up (“MY”) my mom and my brother as I was watching this huge bush go up in flames, worrying that, of course, the building might catch on fire. So I was worried that — it was right before the Fourth of July so I thought there might be a pyromaniac loose or something. So I began really watching the hillside because there were a lot of shrubbery on the hillside. And a couple days later I was at my computer looking out the window and I (“SAW THE”) — I saw the telltale smoke starting. So I immediately (“WHAT” “YOU KNOW”) called up the fire department and ran downstairs. There was nobody there. I mean (“N”) because you can see a wide-angle view of the hillside. (“AND” “BB”) What do you do? I mean it had to — ‘he had to have gotten away.’ These are the types of experiences I was having and I was just discounting them. I actually had two raptures. I had read about raptures and then I had experienced them myself. And I had at least one nightmare aboard a UFO. But I had one other experience too where I heard a voice and that’s where I was in bed one night and I heard this “FATHER I HAVE WAITED SO LONG.” And that really freaked me out because I just didn’t know what on Earth — where that came from.
A: Yeah.
Q: So — and I had — (“IGNORE”)
A: A voice said “FATHER I HAVE WAITED SO LONG”?
Q: Right. I mean unforgettable because — (“WH WH” “NO” “WHAT I[S]”) what on Earth? (“SO”) So I was having all the — and, plus, working at Paramount, back then I didn’t think anything much about the mountain logo but I sure do now. (“I HAVE”) So I have — (“THIS”) I have all this religious symbolism in my life. (“SO”) There was one day when I — after I’d come back to L.A. where I head the idea (“OF” “AA”) — I had the idea of researching my ancestry. First of all, I wanted to see if I had any Bell ancestry. But then (“I”) — so I was going — (“I WAS THINKING”) I had this thought and then I went home. Well my key would not fit into the lock. (“NO” “S[O]”) Anyway, I ended up going to the downtown public library and I found this book. It was Historical Memoirs of the First Race of Ancestry, Whence the House of Russell Had Its Origin. It was (“UN” “UM”) a book written by J. H. Wiffen is 1833, a very rare book that they happened to have in the archives (“OF THE”) — the library downtown. It’s a very good library for (“FOR”) this kind of research. But, basically — (“IT”) basically said I was — the whole Russell lineage could be traced back to somebody known as Olaf the Sharp-eyed, King of Rerik.
