Q: So it’s Saturday and today at the gym I finished reading Doing Life by Steve Bello. It’s the paperback version that says “Now an exciting NBC-TV movie starring Tony Danza.” I find this book interesting in many different ways. In a way, it’s limited omniscient because everything seems from the point of view of Jerry Rosenberg, the subject. It calls him “America’s greatest jailhouse lawyer.” So things are presented from his perspective. I must say, however, that he does seem a very self-obsessed individual. This would be a good book, perhaps, for a young person to read—a teenager getting into a life of crime—so they can see what they could become in terms of — I can see a parent say, “What do you think of Jerry after reading the book? Would you want to be like that?” Anyway, apparently the book does chronicle some abuses in the justice/prison system as well so there’s all kinds of good illustrations in this book of different kinds of corruption. And I also think it’s a wonderful depiction of the way Spirit can teach everyone the meaning of honor and decency and justice because obviously Jerry Rosenberg was a very difficult case. And his experiences presented here do show a learning process. Anyway, I guess I should read:

Events on board the Spacecraft this week include two data playbacks from the CDA (Cosmic Dust Analyzer) and the standard Periodic Engineering Maintenance. Results from this activity and from real-time commands sent to clear the AACS highwater marks show that Cassini is in excellent health and operating normally. The speed of the spacecraft can be viewed on the “Where is Cassini Now?” web page.
Development of the Cruise 18 sequence continues on schedule.
The Titan Orbiter Science Team (TOST) met for two days this week to discuss the allocation of science observing time around each of the 44 Titan closest approaches in the tour. Resource conflicts are being resolved and blocks of time are being negotiated between each of the 12 science instrument teams on Cassini. The main focus of the team is on the closest approach +/- 30 minute time periods. A PSG telecon is being planned for the first week in January to solicit feedback from the PSG on the TOST progress and guidance on the major issues yet to be resolved.
Jupiter Working Group Meetings began this week to examine the next level of detail associated with the Jupiter Operations Concept and the Jupiter Planning schedule. This group will focus on developing detailed interfaces, products, and processes required to produce a high-fidelity Jupiter plan.
Cassini personnel staffed a Cassini exhibit at Planetfest in Pasadena. This event was sponsored by the Planetary Society.
The Saturn Educator Guide was delivered to JPL Graphics for final corrections prior to printing.
The document should be available in January.

Q: Also I did notice that Richard Hoagland was a guest on Art Bell’s yet again. I was curious to see what he would talk about because it seems he has access to a far greater diversity of information than what he’s talked about on the radio even though I no longer listen to his appearances because they’re all with Art. The one thing I’m always amazed by in visiting websites on the Internet and dealing with ‘paranormal’ shows and what-have-you is what a community of people. It’s the same people that keep cropping up time and again on all the various shows and (appearing at) conventions and what-have-you. I always check the links at various websites and you see the same links. Anyway, it’s really quite amazing. I would’ve thought there would be a far greater diversity of people. Anyway — so I went to the BBS message boards at rowland.net under the Enterprise Mission conference area and the one that took my by surprise and, by the way, it wasn’t really a major decision as to which one to read because this one that I was reading, “Connections — Drawing It All Together,” had reached the 111 number and that was sort of a signal to me. Anyway, #107 (Dec. 4) is by a gentleman by the name of Holger Isenberg and it says:

One of the three markers on the map is named 21F and this point on Mars is only 0.5 (25km) east of the Cydonia-Face and on the exact latitude 41 N!
How could Kubrick knew this coordinates in 1968?

In a usenet-discussion I was reminded of the WRONG INSCRIPTED overview map of the same area!
On this map 34 N is written and it is in reality 34 S! So this is a real hint from Clarke & Kubrick to project this map on the northern hemisphere! Amazing!

Q: So what he refers to (at his website) is a message on a newsgroup that’s dated November 6, 1999. There’s a reference to this on his page and it just says — it’s from someone identified as ‘rmepilot.’ It says:

When I found this map in the movie, I did not think of astronomical maps and rotated it by 180. Furthermore, I replaced 45 S with 45 N. Why this replacement? At the time I found this map in the movie, I did not even have any reason for doing this, but afterwards, I saw, that on a larger map of the same area, which was shown seconds before this one, there was the latitude 34 N marked. This is simply wrong, as this is a map of the southern hemisphere, where you can clearly see the large bright Tycho crater..
So this is a hint, Kubrick & Clarke are giving for us to project the map on the northern hemisphere of some other planet. The planet is given with the red tinted lander image: Mars!
The reason why I reviewed this scene of the movie was this Usenet-article from Bill T., who saw the Cydonia-Face in the mars-red tinted image of the Lunar lander. (see picture on top of this page)
So I choose to project the map on a mars-map and I could not believe what appeared!

What a coincidence! 35A72(1) is the Viking Image-ID of the Cydonia-Face. And this image is a completely reliable figure(2) which is the hard copy(4) we have to bring in(3) the discussion about extra-terrestrial life.

They just seemed to be things that weren’t worth nothing and all of a sudden one of them fell down. I looked at it and it was The New International Bible New Testament book of John. And I see a name, “Mike Schmidt,” written on the inside first page: “December 1973.” It says here its a pamphlet published by the Zondervan Bible Publishers. It says: “The Gospel of John here offered to the public is the first portion of The New International Version of the Holy Bible. It is a completely new translation made by many scholars working directly from the Greek.” And then it goes on and on and on about how this version was arrived at. How many times has this gone on over the centuries? (“BU[T]”) I glanced at the beginning of it and then I went to the scene I’ve been thinking about a little bit recently when Jesus is arrested and he goes before Pilate and then he’s sentenced to be crucified. So in John 19 it says:

Q: Anyway, it just made me think while reading this portion — first of all, the thing I noted in just a few paragraphs is how various plot points parallel themes throughout the book and it’s really — seems to be more of ‘trying to make a case’ than just a factual telling of something that happened. You always have this ‘Son of God’ importance view weighed and offered continuously and everything keeps going back to that (such as “When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid”). I don’t know how this version is different from other version of the book of John yet when I’ve heard it casually discussed, Pilate seems a much more villainous figure than here in this version where the killing of Jesus really seemed more a group effort. And I have to consider Jesus. I mean I can well understand how he might think he was the Son of God because from his point of view, for this all to be happening to him it would seem such that he would be the Son of God as opposed to the Holy Ghost, this Force (“THAT WAS”) manifesting around him, singling him out. So I guess his death prevented him from fully learning his lessons about Mighael and his participation in the metaphor but who knows what really happened? I mean this is just one version of a multiplicity of versions and I’m really not a Bible scholar I must say. But it’s something to think about.

Q: So with all these ties between the military, the media, spirituality, the motion picture industry — anyway, Arthur C. Clarke certainly presents an ambiguous identity. His series about the paranormal—which usually denied the paranormal at the end of each half hour episode—seems far stranger to me now or actually it does sort of follow the same pattern. I don’t know much about Arthur C. Clarke. He has always seem to keep a rather secluded profile except for that TV series. One can only ponder what he would think of this latest “2001” parallel along with all the other strange “2001” parallels. Is he still alive? I guess he is. How odd — his penchant for novels. I’ve always, myself, found it more interesting to do non-fiction. I did do a lot of fiction but I always used source material and I was telling stories that were very visual, of course, to express the condition of society, etc. There was that adaptation of To Live Again and that came about in the customary Hollywood way. It wasn’t really my idea — (“BUT”) well it sort of was. I mean I always found it to be a very promising book and then when Robert Crawford was looking for something for Robert Redford and Paul Newman I thought of it and worked on it for a considerable period of time after that.

Q: I did a search on the computer, looking at various websites to get more information about Kubrick’s death but I really didn’t find very much. I did notice Wendy Carlos’s website and it mentioned what an animal lover Kubrick was along with other things, being sort of a forthright picture of Kubrick; admitting that in some ways he was an impossible perfectionist to deal with. And I was reminded too that I had submitted my Bob: Son of Battle screenplay to him and, of course, never heard anything. I thought it was a far more interesting bit of material than some of his selections. Even though I must say “The Shining” in that respect does seem a poor selection only in terms of how he fulfilled it; in terms of selecting various scenes and not really treating the material in such a way as I might’ve envisioned it. Anyway, it’s all beside the point now in a culture that has far too much distractions. ‘Sin’ema gave it away all along — the word cinema.

Q: So tomorrow Philip Clarke is going to be back on “Coast to Coast AM” and his interview subject is going to be Jim Marrs. Hilly, of course, will be on again tonight. I don’t think I’ll tape it though. If something interesting happens, maybe I’ll grab my tape recorder and do something but I’m not expecting to do any more taping of Hilly except maybe on the first because I see he has open lines on the first but by then we’ll know what’s happening with Y2K — which gives me an idea. An Internet idea care of RealAudio (and Hilly & Art’s website). By the way, I absolutely cannot listen to “The Edge of Reality.” Last week, I could swear they had something other than RealAudio but now that’s what it requires and, of course, that’s what I do have. But when I click on the audio feed for the radio show a page comes up that doesn’t have any information or directions. So I did a search of all the radio stations that have broadcasts via the Internet and about four of them matched the list of the Talk America network yet in checking each of those I couldn’t find anything that would suggest that they carry any of the Talk America shows or perhaps one at the most; no mention of “The Edge of Reality.” One was a Country & Western station, in fact. And one of them had a realtor website for the radio station. I mean the radio station Web address was there but it was a realtor so it was bizarre. Q: So with all these ties between the military, the media, spirituality, the motion picture industry — anyway, Arthur C. Clarke certainly presents an ambiguous identity. His series about the paranormal—which usually denied the paranormal at the end of each half hour episode—seems far stranger to me now or actually it does sort of follow the same pattern. I don’t know much about Arthur C. Clarke. He has always seem to keep a rather secluded profile except for that TV series. One can only ponder what he would think of this latest “2001” parallel along with all the other strange “2001” parallels. Is he still alive? I guess he is. How odd — his penchant for novels. I’ve always, myself, found it more interesting to do non-fiction. I did do a lot of fiction but I always used source material and I was telling stories that were very visual, of course, to express the condition of society, etc. There was that adaptation of To Live Again and that came about in the customary Hollywood way. It wasn’t really my idea — (“BUT”) well it sort of was. I mean I always found it to be a very promising book and then when Robert Crawford was looking for something for Robert Redford and Paul Newman I thought of it and worked on it for a considerable period of time after that.

Q: I did a search on the computer, looking at various websites to get more information about Kubrick’s death but I really didn’t find very much. I did notice Wendy Carlos’s website and it mentioned what an animal lover Kubrick was along with other things, being sort of a forthright picture of Kubrick; admitting that in some ways he was an impossible perfectionist to deal with. And I was reminded too that I had submitted my Bob: Son of Battle screenplay to him and, of course, never heard anything. I thought it was a far more interesting bit of material than some of his selections. Even though I must say “The Shining” in that respect does seem a poor selection only in terms of how he fulfilled it; in terms of selecting various scenes and not really treating the material in such a way as I might’ve envisioned it. Anyway, it’s all beside the point now in a culture that has far too much distractions. ‘Sin’ema gave it away all along — the word cinema.

Q: So tomorrow Philip Clarke is going to be back on “Coast to Coast AM” and his interview subject is going to be Jim Marrs. Hilly, of course, will be on again tonight. I don’t think I’ll tape it though. If something interesting happens, maybe I’ll grab my tape recorder and do something but I’m not expecting to do any more taping of Hilly except maybe on the first because I see he has open lines on the first but by then we’ll know what’s happening with Y2K — which gives me an idea. An Internet idea care of RealAudio (and Hilly & Art’s website). By the way, I absolutely cannot listen to “The Edge of Reality.” Last week, I could swear they had something other than RealAudio but now that’s what it requires and, of course, that’s what I do have. But when I click on the audio feed for the radio show a page comes up that doesn’t have any information or directions. So I did a search of all the radio stations that have broadcasts via the Internet and about four of them matched the list of the Talk America network yet in checking each of those I couldn’t find anything that would suggest that they carry any of the Talk America shows or perhaps one at the most; no mention of “The Edge of Reality.” One was a Country & Western station, in fact. And one of them had a realtor website for the radio station. I mean the radio station Web address was there but it was a realtor so it was bizarre.
